Why Gymnastics is so important for our local community: Gymnastics is such an amazing sport and is one of the best base sports for every other sport, that is why it has the 4th highest participation numbers in the country. There are 11 health and skill components of exercise. gymnastics teaches/works on them all, while most other sports only teach a handful at a time. The 11 components are Strength, Muscular endurance, Cardiovascular fitness, Body Composition, Flexibility, Agility, Speed, Coordination, Power, Balance and Reaction Time. We can also add in Rotation, though there are so many more.

Born and raised in the local area Michelle teaches the children of the community along with the team of Bounce Gymnastics. Not only do we all teach gymnastics, we also teach the children a range of life lessons such as; determination, grit, discipline, perseverance, morals, teamwork, work ethic, turn taking, patience, self correction, communication skills, empathy, self control, resilience and so much more, all whilst building their confidence and self-esteem.

Bounce Gymnastics Background and owner: Our club was started by Belinda Turner in 2005 and bought out by her sister-in-law Michelle Warren in 2014. Both began gymnastics young and met through training and coaching at the same club. Michelle started gymnastics in 1994 while training and then competing through to 2003. Michelle began coaching at age 13, judging at 16, assisted Belinda opening Bounce Gymnastics, head coaching Merrylands RSL Youth Club at 21 and bought Bounce Gymnastics at 28.

Michelle has coached children from kindergym through beginner to advanced recreation as well as special needs classes and one on one sessions for special needs children in particular Autism. Michelle has also coached development squads through to National level competitions with Level 8 gymnasts. As a club we are as inclusive as is safe to do so for our classes and if needed we offer more appropriate formats and times for individuals to assist families as best we can.

Why we are organising this event: Our event is to assist in keeping our doors open. Our previous premises was being sold and we had to move which took place in July 2019. Covid then hit the country causing an immediate shut down 9 months after the big move. Obviously, Gymnastics is not something that can be done at home as much as we tried. We set up zooms that had less that 10 attendants on each session we tried. When we were allowed to reopen we had intense restrictions which we had to make incredible alterations to how we could run classes. Given the circumstances our class numbers were of course extremely low which meant we were running at a loss the entire time even after we opened each time.

In 2020 we were completely closed for 3 months with no income over the entirety of term 2. Term 3 we struggled to get people in the door which we understood though made it difficult. Term 4 was also extremely low. In 2021 Term 1 and 2 we were doing better, though barely covering our costs and then in the July of 2021 we were closed again with no income for the entire Term 3 and some of term 4. To add salt to the wounds we had to give refunds for term 3 and ran at a major loss through to 2022.

We have been struggling since Covid and after 4 years we are getting close to having to shut our doors. This trivia night is to help keep the gymnastics going and keep running this program for the children to keep them active and having fun while they do it. We are truly passionate about gymnastics and making sure the kids are having fun as we believe sport is meant to be fun, even for our competitive girls. We want all of our students to come to Bounce gymnastics to do their classes because they love it and we strive to keep a family vibe rather than a business/corporate one.
